Basic Function The position plans and administers medically prescribed Occupational Therapy evaluations and treatments for patients suffering from injuries or medical diseases to restore functions, relieve pain, and prevent disability. In addition, the Occupational Therapist may perform supervisory and administrative functions.

Nature and Scope The role reports to the Director of Rehabilitation responsible for the facility(s) or area(s) of service. The scope of care can include patients from pediatric to geriatric.

Principal Job Responsibilities

  • Meet company guidelines by maintaining company established productivity levels.
  • Perform an accurate comprehensive initial evaluation based on the patient’s diagnosis.
  • Develop appropriate, functional and measurable goals and a plan of treatment based on input from the patient/family.
  • Establish a realistic time frame to achieve treatment goals.
  • Perform a variety of techniques to improve function, tone, strength, etc.
  • Utilize positioning as a technique to prevent or reduce deformities and/or promote function.
  • Assess indications for, fit of, and proper use of orthotics and prosthetics.
  • Perform a re-evaluation at least once every two weeks for inpatients and once a month for outpatients.
  • Follow all state regulations and maintain current licensure.
  • Provide written documentation in accordance with accepted professional standards, company standards, and all State and Federal laws, rules and regulations.
  • Enter all pertinent documentation into patient progress notes in a timely manner per department and facility policy.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting for billing of all services provided.
  • Progress patients appropriately.
  • Ensure timely discharge planning.
  • Educate patients/family/staff regarding home exercise program or Functional Maintenance Program, assistance required, and equipment fit and function.
  • Maintain good working relationship with facility staff/customer(s).
  • Act as a clinical preceptor, as directed.
  • Follow company expectations in regard to HIPAA/Corporate Compliance policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to Medicare Final Local Medical Review Policy for discipline-specific guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Exposure The Occupational Therapist will have close contact with patients and is likely to come in contact with blood or bodily fluids.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two (2) years clinical experience preferred.
  • Must have current unrestricted professional license to practice.
  • Graduate from an accredited Occupational Therapy Program with a Bachelors or Masters degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Must possess excellent organizational, time management, and leadership abilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.

Physical Requirements

  • Job duties are generally performed in a clean and well-equipped area with uniform temperatures and normal noise levels.
  • Work alternates between sitting and standing with mobility necessary.
  • Average sight, talking, hearing, and touching are necessary.
  • Ability to lift, turn, move, position and/or transport patient in/out of bed, chair, wheelchair with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing a threat to health or safety of self or others.
  • Must be able to drive between facilities and specific locations as needed.
  • Ability to administer CPR.
