61 – Rankin County, MS. Reporting location: 3139 Highway 468, Pearl, MS.
This is an Emergency Management Officer I position with the Mississippi Forestry Commission (MFC). It is a permanent position within the agency’s Fire Services Division. The applicant will have excellent communication and record-keeping skills and will perform core tasks such as communications, coordination between local, state, and federal partners, fuel mitigation project data analysis, the Mississippi Forestry Commission resource-tracking program, prescribed fire permitting, fire weather monitoring, National Wildfire Coordinating Group training, the Incident Command System, and Community Wildfire Protection Plan development.
The role requires occasional overnight travel.
The applicant will need the willingness to learn wild‑land fire detection, suppression, preparedness, and prevention, and will become proficient in mobilizing air and ground resources statewide. Computer knowledge and file management skills will be essential for day‑to‑day duties. With wild‑land fire being an ever‑changing environment, expect other duties as assigned.
Preferred QualificationsTypically requires a bachelor’s degree or high‑school graduation (or equivalent) and 0‑2 years of experience.
