SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHER JOB GOAL

To Lead students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation.

RESPONSIBLE TO

School Principal

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the location and at the time designed.
  • Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the district.
  • Prepare for classes assigned and provide written daily plans as evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of courteous classroom behavior, insist on well-behaved class.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitation of the location provided and the needs capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Strive to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Take all responsible precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities.
  • Evaluate student progress on a regular basis.
  • Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
  • Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and Board policy.
  • Make provisions for being available to students and parents for educational related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms; parent-teacher conferences will be scheduled through the building principal's office.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings.
  • Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Accept a share of responsibility of co-curricular activities as assigned by principal.
  • Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relations with others.
  • Provide for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
  • Attend local PTO/PTA meetings.
  • Make sure lesson plans include the required Mississippi Curriculum Frameworks Competencies and Objectives in a timely manner.
  • Will exemplify high moral character.
  • When absent, will provide the substitute with lesson plans, duty schedule, and daily schedule suitable for organized instruction.
  • Your contract shall be subject to all applicable policies, resolutions, rules and regulations of the employer, The Mississippi Educator Code of Ethics and Standards of Conduct as adopted by the State Board of Education, and the laws of the State of Mississippi, copies of which are available from your Principal or the Superintendent's office.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Valid teaching license in appropriate teaching area (Elementary Education 4-6 or 7-12 Science and Social Studies)
EQUIPMENT

Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of middle school curriculum and concepts, including all subject matters taught.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with job description and duties

EMPLOYMENT

187 day contract; salary determined by state Adequate Education Program
