Paraprofessional Teacher Assisstant

PUE Teacher Assisstant

Qualifications:

Applicants must have:

  • A. Completed at least 2 years of study (48 semester hours) at an institution of higher education; or
  • B. Obtained an associate’s (or higher) degree; or
  • C. Met a rigorous standard of quality as determined by a formal assessment. Mississippi uses ACT Work Keys® assessment scores to measure this standard.
Job Goal:

To provide a well‑organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation education, in accordance with each pupil’s ability;

Functions:

Such duties and responsibilities as may be assigned, including but not limited to:

  • INSTRUCTION AND ASSESSMENT:
    The paraprofessional as ATSI interventionist at PUE will deliver small group instruction program to underperforming students in an organized and effective manner by:
    • By following a program and directives that engages students in learning to build fundamental skills to help them get closer to grade level.
    • Learning how to effectively deliver instruction and routinely use desired remediation programs.
    • Recognizing and responding appropriately to individual differences in students.
    • Implementing adopted curriculum subject matter standards and assessment instruments to meet school and district goals.
    • Demonstrating knowledge of the subjects to be taught and the relationship to other subjects.
    • Reflecting on teaching and devising ways of improving performance on an ongoing basis.
    • Collaborating with other educators to create the most complete educational environment possible for students.
    • Utilizing technology in the teaching and learning process.
  • CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT – The paraprofessional with instructional duties will exhibit effective classroom management skills by
    • Providing a physical environment that is safe, orderly, hazard‑free, and conducive to learning.
    • Consistently implementing approved disciplinary measures to allow for effective instruction and classroom management.
  • COMMUNICATION – The paraprofessional will exhibit effective communication skills by
    • Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
    The paraprofessional with instructional duties will exhibit professional growth by
    • Participates in in‑service training programs, as assigned.
    • Participates in and completes the approved district Professional Development Program.
    • Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the immediate supervisor may from time to time assign.
    • Demonstrates a commitment to professional growth.
  • POLICIES AND PROCEDURES:
    The paraprofessional with instructional duties will comply with district and school policies by
    • Adhering to policies and procedures established by district, school, state, and federal guidelines.
    • Submitting required reports efficiently, promptly, and accurately.
    • Inventorying classroom materials, textbooks, and equipment.

  • Maintains appropriate professional appearance.
  • Demonstrates regular attendance and punctuality.
