Position Overview
Vital Medical Staffing is looking for dependable and compassionate Dental Hygienists to join our PRN team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys flexibility, values patient comfort, and can step in to support dental offices when coverage is needed. As a PRN Dental Hygienist, you'll work alongside dentists and dental teams to provide high-quality preventive oral care while helping patients feel at ease during their visits.
We partner with dental offices and healthcare facilities that rely on us to help cover open shifts due to call-outs, schedule gaps, or increased patient needs. Because of this, reliability, clear communication, and a calm, patient-centered approach are very important in this role.
Key ResponsibilitiesAs a PRN Dental Hygienist, your responsibilities will include providing preventive and therapeutic dental care while maintaining a clean, safe, and supportive clinical environment.
- Review and update patient medical and dental histories prior to treatment
- Perform routine dental cleanings, including plaque and tartar removal, scaling, root planing, and polishing
- Take and develop dental X-rays as ordered and according to safety guidelines
- Apply preventive treatments such as fluoride and dental sealants
- Assess oral health, screen for signs of gum disease, cavities, or other concerns, and report findings to the dentist
- Educate patients on proper brushing, flossing, and overall oral hygiene habits, including nutrition tips that support oral health
- Help prepare treatment rooms before and after patient visits
- Assist dentists during procedures when needed and within scope of practice
- Administer local anesthesia where permitted by state regulations
- Accurately document patient care, treatment provided, and observations in patient charts
- Sterilize instruments and follow all infection control and safety protocols
- Help create a calm and reassuring experience for patients, especially those who may feel anxious about dental visits
- Strong communication skills and a friendly, professional bedside manner
- Ability to explain dental care in a simple, reassuring way
- Attention to detail in patient assessments, charting, and infection control
- Manual dexterity and comfort using dental instruments and equipment
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating with dental teams
- Reliable, punctual, and able to adapt to different office environments
- Comfortable working PRN and accepting as‑needed or last‑minute shifts
- Active and valid Dental Hygienist license in good standing
- At least one year of recent professional experience working as a Dental Hygienist
- Current CPR/BLS certification (in person course)
- Valid TB test results
- Knowledge of standard dental procedures, infection control, and patient safety
- Prior clinical experience preferred, but not required depending on assignment
- Flexible PRN scheduling
