Job Title:
Instrumentation & Control (I&C) Engineer
Location:
Mississauga, ON
Position Summary:
We are seeking an Instrumentation & Control (I&C) Engineer to join our growing engineering team. This role supports the design and delivery of packaged systems, including electrolyzers, purification, storage, and balance-of-plant equipment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing control and safety systems, specifying field instrumentation, and ensuring compliance with applicable electrical and hazardous area standards for hydrogen facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Designing control system panels and electrical panels including VFD panels and power distribution panels up to 600
VAC. - Preparing functional design documentation (such as FDS, control narratives, cause & eAect matrices, safety requirements system).
- Implement control strategies for hydrogen production, compression, and storage systems.
- Working with ESA authority for panels, skids and site installation certification
- Supporting the building of test and R&D equipment
Instrumentation Engineering:
- Prepare instrument datasheets, I/O lists, loop diagrams, and cable schedules.
- Select and specify field instrumentation
- Review P&IDs and ensure alignment with project and safety requirements.
- Support procurement and vendor technical evaluations.
Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with the applicable electrical code and standards
- Support HAZOP, LOPA study and safety system implementation.
- Assist with Safety Instrumented Functions (SIFs) and emergency shutdown logic
- Ensure the process of OT / IT communication network meets cyber security requirements
Testing & Commissioning:
- Developing testing and simulation environment for testing process control program
- Developing I&C QC documentation and Participating in the package's FAT and SAT
- Assist with system commissioning, troubleshooting and operation.
- Collaborate with field and operation teams during startup activities
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical, or controls Engineering.
- P.Eng designation
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in hydrogen, gas processing, oil & gas, or chemical industries.
- Working knowledge of hazardous area installations code (Explosive atmosphere) , CEC, NFPA 70, IEC
61508 and IEC 61511 - Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (such as Profinet, Modbus) and Layer 3 network switches.
- Being certified as Functional Safety Engineer is as asset
- Experience of PLC program trouble shooting (S7-1500) and HMI / SCADA trouble shooting
- Experience of C, phyton, VBA programming
