Senior Civil Designer

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

Preparation of civil drawings and details from conception to final design in a 3D modelling environment such as Civil 3D, according to established standards and procedures for a wide variety of sites, including linear utility modelling, site grading and site servicing plan modelling/design, road and rail corridor design and modelling, and transit stations.

Drive design phases and implement design standards on rail and transit and linear infrastructure projects of high complexity.

Review and prepare models and drawings; work with Engineers to develop detailed drawings, quantities and various supporting documents.

Work in various procurement strategies such as Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build environments to advance civil design packages.

Mentor and supervise junior Technicians.

Follow BIM Execution Plan and BIM project requirements throughout project lifecycle.

Provide support and training to junior Technicians on Civil 3D and project BIM standards and procedures.

Adhere to GHD BIM standards and procedures and implement compliance at the project level.

Provide input into BIM scope, schedule, and budget when required.

Quantity take-offs.

Produce consistent, high-quality civil deliverables.

Communicate regularly with civil leads, designers, and project team members to ensure effective and timely flow of project information to meet deadlines.

Participate, when required, in the advancement of GHD Standard Civil/Transportation Details and BIM Standards, including promoting changes, mentoring updates to tools and methods, and assisting with training and lessons learned exercises.

What you will bring to the team

Technician/Technologist with Civil Engineering Technology diploma; background in Civil Engineering is considered an asset.

8 to 10 years of civil design and drafting and modelling experience. (Mandatory)

Proven record of site grading, site servicing, drainage and access road design using Civil 3D; preparation of all plans, sections, profiles and details drawings (Mandatory).

Significant experience with corridor and pipe network modules in Civil 3D.

Extensive experience with 3D model development, completing design, general arrangement drawing production, redlining, annotating and drafting.

Strong attention to detail, problem solving, and organizational skills.

High proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D is mandatory. Knowledge of Bentley software such as Micro Station and Open Roads as well as other software such as Navisworks, Dynamo, REVIT are assets.

Experience with Metrolinx and rail corridor modelling/design is an asset.

Ability to perform complex design tasks in a multidisciplinary environment, collaborating with team members from other disciplines.

Experience with QA/QC of models and drawings for standards compliance, and discipline coordination.

Good understanding of the level of effort required to complete the work.

Positive attitude, good communication and interpersonal skills.

Competency in BIM collaboration tools e.g. Project Wise, BIM 360 (Mandatory).

Strong communication skills for a team-based working environment and for teaching project teams about standard methodologies in BIM/CAD.

Ability to interact with external entities to interpret BIM/CAD requirements and BIM scope.

Ability to work on multiple parallel projects within a team environment.

Able to work under and meet tight deadlines.
