Job Description & How to Apply Below
e-Zinc is an energy storage venture based in Toronto with a breakthrough technology poised to disrupt the market. As the global energy grid moves to higher levels of penetration of renewable energy, there is a surging need for affordable, flexible, long-duration energy storage. e-Zinc is uniquely positioned to meet this demand as the first company in the world to “metalize” electricity.
Backed by over CAD $80 million in funding from leading global strategic and financial investors - such as Toyota Ventures, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Eni, Evok Innovations, and BDC - e-Zinc has garnered international recognition for its proprietary technology and visionary roadmap. Highlights include:
Named to the Global Cleantech 100 for four consecutive years (2022–2025)
$1M Grand Prize winner of the Impact Canada Charging the Future Challenge
Awarded a $1.6M grant from Breakthrough Energy Solutions Canada
Secured over $12M in funding across three projects from Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC)
Recipient of a USD $1.3M grant from the California Energy Commission
As e-Zinc moves toward commercialization, e-Zinc is expanding its team to bring our transformative technology to market and support the future of renewable energy.
e-Zinc is searching for an experienced and talented Sr. Electrical Engineer to work within the Technology and Product Engineering department on the design, development, and assembly of electrically safe and robust power conversion systems up to engineering release of our proprietary zinc-based cells, battery packs, and BESS products.
This role offers the opportunity to work at the cutting edge of clean energy within a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Position Scope and Responsibilities
Design of electrical architectures for battery pack and BESS products, including specification, selection, and integration of components for power conversion, power distribution, safety, monitoring, and connection to external systems.
Delivery of electrical systems that achieve functional requirements, safety certification, high volume manufacturing readiness, cost targets, and regulatory requirements.
Create detailed electrical and power schematics, wiring and harness diagrams, and BOMs using CAD and ECAD tools.
Define and execute test plans for performance and safety verification of BESS engineering samples, including energy storage performance, power flow validation, compliance with standards (i.e. LV / HV isolation, insulation resistance, electrical noise, and EMC).
Support the design and integration of Battery Management Systems (BMS), control and switching components, and sensing and monitoring hardware.
Lead and contribute to design reviews, DFMEA, root cause analysis, and continuous product improvement initiatives.
Drive the development of electrical test fixtures, jigs, and assembly processes to support pack and BESS validation and engineering sample assembly.
Provide technical support for prototype builds, manufacturing transfer, and vendor qualification.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related engineering discipline.
10+ years of experience in electrical design and development for battery energy storage or industrial power systems.
Experience designing power conversion (DC/DC) systems to regulate and manage battery-connected systems.
Registration with the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) is an asset.
Experience in component selection and integration including sensors, relays, and communication interfaces.
Strong design, problem-solving and hands‑on skills; experience in engineering, prototyping, and industrial production environments and field troubleshooting.
Knowledge of applicable standards for battery and electrical system certification (e.g., UL, IEC, CE).
At e-Zinc, how we work matters just as much as what we build. The qualities below reflect how our team turns our core values into action every day.
Safety
You prioritize safety in everything you do and understand the deep responsibility we have to our people, our customers, and our planet.
