Cold Chain Packaging Engineer

They are currently seeking a  Cold Chain Packaging Engineer  to join their Product Innovation team.

In this role, you will support the design, testing, and validation of thermal packaging solutions for temperature‑sensitive products. Reporting to the Senior Director of Product Innovation, you will collaborate with the Product Development Team to refine existing product lines, design and prototype new solutions, test against client‑specific requirements, and contribute to the development of novel thermal systems. This position plays a key role in helping our client maintain its leadership in the cold‑chain packaging industry.

Key Responsibilities

Advance the continual improvement of existing product lines.

Develop new products from conception to commercialization.

Generate digital product designs to meet specific organizational or customer requirements.

Lead the development team in optimizing prototyping by further incorporating thermal modeling into the design process.

Actively search out and evaluate new technologies for testing based on performance, sustainability and cost.

Construct physical prototypes from base materials transforming design ideas into functional, test models.

Oversee / execute thermal performance testing in accordance with ISTA ASTM, and ISO 9001:2015 protocols.

Draft / contribute to detailed test protocols, qualification reports, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to document packaging development and validation activities.

Ensure solutions meet applicable quality standards, client requirements, and industry regulations (e.g., GMP, GLP, ISO 9001).

Work closely with Sales, Quality, and Operations Teams to ensure successful launch of new packaging designs.

Qualifications

Degree in Packaging Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.

5+ years of relevant experience in product design, packaging development, cold chain, or thermal systems (internships/co‑ops acceptable).

Strong written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to write technical reports and protocols.

Experience with Solid Works, CAD and or similar programs.

Experience with Smart CAE or similar Thermal Modeling Software.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Strong organizational and time management skills with a hands‑on, self‑starter attitude.

Ability to work on multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities.

Preferred Skills

Knowledge of ISTA protocols and cold chain packaging principles.

Familiarity with thermal data loggers, environmental chambers, and temperature validation methods.

An understanding of shipping lane qualification and thermal performance mapping.

Familiarity of thermal simulation methods using finite element methods to analyze heat transfer in cold chain packaging.
