Accounting Manager (Contract Maternity Leave Coverage)
Reporting directly to: Firm CPA Founder
Location:

Compensation: $111,000 to $115,000

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to join us on a contract basis to cover a maternity leave, with a strong possibility of transitioning into a permanent full-time role based on performance and business needs.

The Opportunity
This is a key leadership role for a CPA manager with strong confidence in reviewing assurance and compilation files, leading and coaching team members, improving file quality, and supporting CPA Ontario Practice Inspection readiness.
You will work closely with the CPA owner/founder of the firm. This is an important role in ensuring files are technically strong, consistent, and review ready.
Key Responsibilities
Manage a portfolio of corporate and personal clients and lead engagements from start to finish
Maintain strong client relationships and handle inquiries professionally and efficiently
Ensure client files are organized, accurate, and delivered on time Assurance / Working Paper Review
Provide manager-level review of engagements including Compilation/NTR, Review, and Audit files (ASPE & IFRS)
Perform final technical review of working paper files to ensure completeness and consistency before final sign-off
Identify deficiencies and drive timely corrective action to reduce rework
Team Leadership & Coaching
Supervise, mentor, and support team members and intermediate accountants
Provide guidance on working papers, documentation standards, deadlines, and engagement planning
Promote accountability, training, and a high-performing team culture
Assist with CPA Ontario Practice Inspection readiness, including file readiness reviews/internal pre-inspections
Support documentation strengthening across assurance and compilation engagements
Assist with implementing quality improvements and remediation plans
Tax & Compliance Oversight
Review and support preparation of T2 corporate tax returns
Assist with T1 / Trust returns as needed
Ensure tax work is well-documented and meets internal standards
Qualifications
CPA designation required in Ontario (having a USA CPA as well is an asset but not required)
5+ years’ experience in a Canadian public accounting firm (firm with assurance)
Strong technical knowledge of assurance and compilation documentation standards and working paper file preparation/review procedures
Strong leadership and communication skills
Highly organized, reliable, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple deadlines
Experience supporting CPA Ontario inspection preparation is a strong asset
