PRIMARY PURPOSE

To assist the Cafeteria Manager by accurately counting and claiming meals as per the Child Nutrition Program rules and regulations. Assist in preparing and serving safe and nutritious meals daily, provide a pleasant environment for all students and staff, and maintain a clean, sanitary and safe work environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma, GED or higher
  • Current Food Handler Certification
  • Maintain required Professional Development Standard hours as required by TDA for this position.

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

  • Basic knowledge of mathematical and accounting principles
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions
  • Ability to interact cordially with adults and students of all ages and diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to handle tight schedules and short term high stress
  • Ability to perform tasks in high noise school surroundings
  • Knowledge of the Nutrikids Point of Sale
  • Knowledge of Offer vs. Serve, Choice and Reimbursable meals required
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks daily without instruction
  • Willingness and ability to accept kitchen responsibilities in the Manager’s absence
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry 45 lbs. without assistance
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Report at assigned time.
  • Attend all mandatory trainings/meetings.
  • Perform duties as described on the daily work schedule.
  • Wear proper uniform and shoes daily.
  • Maintain proper hygiene.
  • Work after or before assigned hours, including Saturdays as needed to prepare and serve meals for students.
  • Work the Supper Program after school.
  • Work the Fresh Fruits and Vegetables program.
  • Follow District computer use policy and procedure.
  • Operate the Point of Sale System.
  • Identify and record each reimbursable meal at the point of service.
  • Execute daily reports of meals served.
  • Ensure accurate accountability and deposit of all cash received for sales of adult meals and ala carte items.
  • Prepare daily deposits using forms and procedures authorized by the bank and the District’s Business Office.
  • Submit participation and financial reports daily on the required forms.
  • Assist in all areas of the kitchen as assigned by the manager.
  • Keep work area and equipment used clean and orderly.
  • Follow proper safety procedures, safety regulations in the performance of duties, and report accidents immediately.
  • Follow proper food preparation procedures according to the HACCP Plan and production record.
  • Accept any campus assigned for the day and substitute wherever needed.
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or others.
  • Respects federally funded foods, equipment and supplies according to USDA, TEA, and TDA guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Superintendent, CNP Director, or CNP Assistant Director or Manager.

  • Occasional climbing (ladder)
  • Occasional exposure to prolonged cold or hot temperature
  • Assignment by Program Manager as needed
