Purpose of Position
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Center Director, the Aquatics Director is responsible for developing and overseeing all aquatics activities at the YMCA, including general aquatics operations, lifeguarding, maintaining a safe swimming condition, and pool operations. The position will extend the Y’s mission by creating a positive atmosphere where everyone is respected and welcomed and builds relationships with team members and members alike.
EssentialFunctions General Operations
- Manages a team of aquatics personnel. Schedules, monitors, and approves time for all team members.
- Schedule, conduct, and document training to ensure all team members’ training certifications are up to date. Training needs include, but are not limited to, Ellis training, CPR, and First-Aid.
- Develops and monitors annual Aquatics department revenue and expense budget to meet center fiscal objectives. Accountable for all aquatics department financial results.
- Maintains the highest standards in pool safety and is in full compliance with the association and Ellis standards and guidelines at all times.
- Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local, Ellis & Associates, ADA guidelines, and YMCA health and safety regulations.
- Assists in YMCA fundraising activities, Annual Campaigns, and special events as needed.
- Responsible for all lifeguard shift scheduling and filling lifeguard shifts as necessary.
- Responsible for training and recertifying current and potential lifeguards.
- Oversees lifeguards while on deck, coaching the team when necessary.
- Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
- Responsible for fixing basic pool maintenance issues.
- Track and oversee the completion of daily chemical logs.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Two years or more related experience preferred.
- Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Current CPR, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, Lifeguard, Lifeguard Instructor and swim lesson instructor certifications. YMCA instructor certifications preferred.
