TUM, the Venture Labs aim to develop Munich into Europe’s leading technology hub within their respective focus areas. TUM Venture Lab ChemSPACE channels research-driven entrepreneurial activities in the field of chemistry with the goal of optimally supporting the creation of startups in this domain. From identifying relevant research questions and prototypical implementation to technology transfer and actual company formation, all aspects and phases of a startup team’s development are supported.
Mission
- Organizing and managing laboratories – Ensuring a high-performing and innovative laboratory infrastructure for aspiring startups; enforcing laboratory safety structures and regulations; supporting laboratory equipment procurement; defining requirements for new devices; and further developing a scalable lab management structure to optimally support our teams.
- Supporting and empowering teams – You will work closely with the ChemSPACE teams and assist them in their daily challenges: from organizing and providing laboratory equipment and chemicals to coordinating joint meetings. You will also provide strategic advice, particularly regarding funding and the further development of their projects.
- Inspiring students and researchers for entrepreneurship – Contributing sustainably to solving global challenges in medicine, climate change mitigation, and planetary resilience requires transforming innovative ideas in chemistry into scalable products with real-world impact.
- Building community – Supporting the development of a cross-institutional chemistry startup community together with other chemistry institutions, established companies, customers/interested stakeholders, and researchers.
- Expanding visibility – Supporting internal and external communication activities, maintaining the website, shaping the public image of Venture Lab ChemSPACE, and further developing the Venture Lab through creative ideas and initiatives.
- Transferring knowledge – Supporting the development of new concepts and programs for natural scientists, where appropriate as a complement to existing courses at UTUM/TUM.
- Degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or a comparable natural sciences discipline (PhD advantageous)
- Entrepreneurial mindset and preferably initial experience in entrepreneurship
- Experience working in chemical laboratories, ideally with initial experience in laboratory safety and safety management
- Fluency in German and English (written and spoken)
- Experience in project management and strong organizational skills
- High social competence and communication skills, as well as enthusiasm for working with young entrepreneurial talents and teams
- Proactive working style characterized by initiative combined with team spirit

The position is initially limited to two (2) years and is full-time (100%). Employment and remuneration are based on TV-L E13.
