Purpose and ScopeThis position provides cleaning and light maintenance for the buildings and grounds (landscaping) at the parish, school, and other parish properties. This role involves collaborating with fellow employees in promoting the parish’s mission of evangelization aimed at leading all those who enter through the doors of St. Josephine Bakhita.

- Assures that church buildings are maintained in a clean and orderly manner. Mops and vacuums floors, cleans bathrooms, washes windows, and maintains wood furniture that requires oiling and maintenance.
- Assures that grounds (landscaping) are maintained in a clean and safe manner by mowing, watering, and edging lawns, sweeping/blowing walkways, weeding, pruning, and raking.
- Performs minor maintenance of the rectories, church, school, and office buildings when needed.
- Performs light plumbing, electrical, carpentry and other minor repair work on the facilities as needed.
- Provides other general assistance as needed through setting up the chairs and tables as requested, hauling and moving items, and picking up parts or other equipment as requested by staff.
- Maintains an inventory of supplies needed for maintenance and repairs.
- Performs any job-related tasks necessary for the smooth flow of operations within the parish.
- Contributes to team effort for a professional environment.
- Maintains and demonstrates a cooperative attitude and effective working relationship with all departments, church groups, employees, volunteers, and parishioners.
- Ability to safely operate gas or electric powered lawn mowers, edgers, trimmers or other equipment used in landscaping and maintenance.
- Ability to safely operate power tools that may be required to make routine, light maintenance repairs.
- Knowledge of general care requirements for landscaping and maintenance.
- Must be able to perform strenuous tasks as requested by the supervisor.
- Ability to lift, move and use ladders, lifts, scaffolds, and other related equipment.
- Knowledge of hazards and safety methods related to maintenance and custodial operations.
- Ability to set priorities and organize work effectively.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to provide your own transportation for job-related responsibilities.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid AZ Driver’s License.
- On-call availability for emergencies.
- This job operates in the Parish, School, and other Parish Property grounds.
- This role routinely uses common hand and power tools, such as screwdrivers, saws, drills, wrenches, and hammers to fix, replace, or repair equipment and parts of buildings.
- This is a largely active role, requiring standing, walking, climbing, and reaching. This would require the ability to stand for long periods or lift heavy objects up to fifty pounds, as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications- Three years’ work experience in minor repair work in carpentry, painting, electrical & plumbing.
- Successful work experience implementing a comprehensive cleaning plan for a facility, including sweeping, dusting, washing, and waxing.
- Successful work experience maintaining grounds (landscaping), parking lots, etc.
- Ability to maintain a safe working environment.
- Must be willing and able to be dependable.
- Demonstrate a professional and cooperative attitude with staff, volunteers, and parishioners.
- Have successfully completed and kept up to date the completion of Called to Protect training from the Diocese of Phoenix.
- Must have a current Federal Fingerprint Card, an IVP Fingerprint Card, and update when necessary.
