Description:

The Physical Therapist Assistant administers physical therapy treatments to patients, in Acute Care, Swing Bed, Outpatient, and Aquatic setting working under the direction of the Physical Therapist.###

Minimum qualifications:

* Graduate of a Physical Therapy Assistant Program approved by the American Physical Therapy Association. Licensed as a Physical Therapist by the State of Washington State Licensing Board.
* Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification or must be obtained within 30 days of hire through American Heart Association (AHA) or equivalent organization. Physical Therapist Assistant license by the State of Washington.
* 1-2 years of experience treating patients in an acute care hospital, including Inpatients, Outpatients is preferred. Experience in an outpatient clinic and understanding the different insurance payor guidelines is a plus.### Primary job responsibilities:
* Administers active and passive therapeutic exercises, therapeutic activities, heat, light, sound, water, and electrical modality treatments, such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, ultraviolet, infrared, hot and cold packs to treat patients with relatively stable conditions.
* Administers manual and mechanical traction to relieve neck and back pain including other joints that need such treatment.
* Instructs, motivates, and assists patients in learning and improving functional activities, such as gait training, transfers, bed mobility, therapeutic exercise and activities for strengthening and improving range of motion and balance.
* Observes patients during treatments and documents data regarding response to treatment, progression of exercise program, and reports orally or in writing to the Physical Therapist any variations from the plan of care.
* Fits patients for, adjusts, and trains in use and care of orthoses, prostheses, and assistive devices, such as crutches, canes, walkers, and wheelchairs.
* Confers with members of the physical therapy staff and other health team members individually and in conference, to exchange, discuss, and manage patient information for planning, modifying, and coordinating treatment programs.
* Performs department orientation to new Physical Therapist Assistants and other Rehabilitation staff.
* Performs various clerical tasks, such as taking inventory, ordering supplies, answering telephone, taking messages, and filling out forms.
* May measure patient’s range of joint motion, length and girth of body parts, and vital signs to determine effects of specific treatments or to assist the PHYSICAL THERAPIST in compiling data for patient assessments.
* Appropriately records billing information of services rendered and documented in the medical record.
* Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
* Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
* Performs various clerical tasks, such as taking inventory, ordering supplies, answering telephone, taking messages, and filling out forms.
* Serves and protects the physical therapy practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and is compliant with PTA practice standards.
* Enhances physical therapy practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
* Maintains and grows professional competency by completing or attending continuing education classes.
