About the Organization

Black Girls Do STEM provides a transformative pathway program for 6th-12 th grade girls in St. Louis. We currently support 150 girls across this grade range.

Program Name Program Description

STEM Saturday Academy (SSA) Middle School:
The middle school program launches with STEM Saturdays, an eight-month, 40-hour core program covering all STEM areas with hands-on workshops. The program is geared towards STEM career pathways and includes on-site mentorship from working STEM professionals, evidence-based social-emotional activities for personal growth, and immersive career exploration and experiential learning field trips. The STEM Saturday Academy empowers through real world access and engagement with STEM industries in our community.

Empowerment, Preparation and Placement (EPP) High School:
The high school program, called Empowerment, Preparation, and Placement, offers support services to girls in 9th-12th grades and includes math and science tutoring, ACT preparation, HBCU Tours, externships, internships, post secondary planning, and summer research opportunities. These offerings are made possible through collaboration and service partnerships and are open to all girls as they matriculate to/through high school from our STEM Saturday Academy.

Virtual Collegiate Community (VCC) Post Secondary:
Beyond K-12, we host a Virtual Collegiate Community that leads into a post-secondary strategy to further support girls through university and/or training programs into the workforce through targeted resources, knowledge sharing and community building.

Mission: Black Girls Do STEM ignites curiosity and confidence in Science, Technology, Engineering,and Mathematics by providing Black girls in every community with intentional hands-on learning experiences and opportunities to innovate, develop leadership, and shape a future where they thrive as STEM changemakers.

Vision: Black Girls Do STEM envisions a new normal where Black women are represented equitably in STEM, leading, and innovating with joy, confidence, and the power to solve global problems.

Scholarship At Black Girls Do STEM, we rigorously engage in learning by doing. We embody the mindset of being lifelong learners and solution creators. With hands-on learning at the center of our model, not only will we provide scholarships to youth through rigor, but also, we will also embody the same rigor, problem-solving, systems thinking mindset, and stick-to-it-ness we facilitate throughout programming.

Tenacity At Black Girls Do STEM, we take risks to build skills; failing fast and forward, making sure we get the lesson from our learning. This is done through a culture of collaboration, self-awareness, and reflection. We cultivate this culture by learning new systems through research and putting them into practice through competency and trust.

Empowerment + Equity At Black Girls Do STEM, we empower through exposure, as we learn by doing. We guarantee transparency in our processes, access to all, and deep listening to spur a culture of safe action, courage, and accountability. To have equity outcomes not just for our kids but for our entire organization. This requires us to correct in the spirit of love and growth and allow many opportunities for learning to happen.

Mentorship At Black Girls Do STEM, we believe everyone and anyone can be the coach or coachee. We approach each other with the same curiosity that lives in our programming, working to lead and learn with and from each other.
