South College Online is conducting a search for the position of Department Chairperson for the computer science Department managing computer science and information technology. The person hired will be responsible for the daily operation, organization, administration, general effectiveness, and supervision of all Instructors/Professors teaching online courses offered from the online modality.
This full-time position will oversee adjunct faculty recruiting, hiring, and onboarding, in addition to effectively scheduling online sections with strong consideration to budgetary constraints and maximizing resource potential. An online teaching load is also a requirement of the role. The candidate must have strong leadership skills, be open to collaboration, and have a passion for overseeing a quality educational program focused on fostering student support.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Assess and oversee the department’s online schedule to plan and predict staffing needs.
- Interview and recruit computer science faculty with appropriate credentials who will contribute to the program and student outcomes.
- Providing ongoing faculty management, training, and support.
- Maintain a teaching load of twelve courses per year.
- Strategically plan course offerings to maximize internal resources and schedules.
- Maintains and upholds the policies and procedures of the program and college.
- Participate in professional development, service, and scholarship.
- Represents the online modality in cross-campus computer science leadership initiatives.
- Other as assigned.
- A terminal degree in computer science.
- Preference given to applicants with a degree in software engineering.
- Teaching experience in post-secondary educational setting.
- 3 to 5 years of leadership experience, preferably overseeing diverse groups of individuals.
- Background in data analysis and/or systems/operation management.
- Experience with ABET accreditation preferred.
