Position Summary:
Under direction of the Coordinator & Lead Instructor, the Instructor will be responsible for all aspects of Barber Academy instruction and work in a team environment. The Instructor will follow and implement ABTCC and NCBBE rules and regulations.

If selected for hire, official sealed transcripts from an institution accredited by an accredited agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education are required. They must be received a minimum of two business weeks before the first day of work. Transcripts outside of the United States must be accompanied by an evaluation completed by a NACES recognized agency and submitted at least two weeks prior to the first day of work.
Failure to comply may result in the withdrawal of the job offer.
- Maintain mastery of subject matter.
- Prepare students to take and pass the NCBBEE Apprentice Examination.
- Prepare the academy for daily scheduled events.
- Maintain class‑related compliance documents such as attendance, grading, rosters, section changes, class schedules, in accordance with college policy and NCBBE, ensuring accuracy and submission by deadlines.
- Prepares all lesson plans, deliver lectures, demonstrations, and hands‑on exercises of complex nature as they pertain to NCBBE criteria.
- Accurately demonstrate and instruct per NCBBE guidelines.
- Operate standard Academy equipment including PC, cameras, scanner, copier, clock hour software, client scheduling software, and washer/dryer.
- Utilize technology, including email, SharePoint, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), Moodle/Compass, Zoom, and other technology‑based vehicles for training, communicating, and submitting documentation.
- Maintain accurate inventory, submit supply requests, and conduct cost analysis of class supply usage.
- Participate in budget planning process as defined by the Coordinator.
- Participate in regularly scheduled, documented evaluation sessions with Coordinator/Lead Instructor.
- Prepare and manage client scheduling and student/client practical labs.
- Remain current on all aspects of barbering, including chemical theories and applications with heightened attention to safety, hygiene, sanitation, disinfection, and safe work practices.
- Adhere to policies, procedures, expectations, and practices of the College, the department, and discipline.
- Communicate clearly with students, other faculty, and staff.
- Ensure a safe and secure campus environment, staying current with all college safety protocols and leading by example.
- Enforce Code of Classroom Conduct and Code of Student Conduct.
- Attend meetings and events.
- Uphold the College Vision, Mission, Values, and RISE statement.
- Support diversity in all aspects.
- Establish or uphold learning outcomes that are relevant and meaningful.
- Evaluate student progress in a fair, consistent, and timely manner.
- Complete required professional development annually.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or equivalent and Barber School Graduate.
- Full‑time work experience as a licensed barber.
- Current North Carolina Barber Instructor’s Permit.
- Experience teaching at a community college.
- Proficiency in a foreign language such as Spanish, an East Slavic language, and/or American Sign Language.
Your total compensation goes beyond this maximum salary. Your A-B Tech benefits represent nearly 30% of your total compensation.
The total compensation for this position includes a 24.04% employer contribution to a defined pension plan, contributions towards medical and dental policies, and fully funded life insurance / accidental death & dismemberment policy.
Salary Range: $57,504 - $60,504 per year (Non‑Negotiable). Total Compensation: $84,793 – $88,759.
