Competency Based Education Online Financial Aid Officer Description

The Financial Aid Officer supports students through the financial aid lifecycle by providing information, guidance, and assistance with the application, eligibility, and disbursement processes. This position ensures all aid is processed in compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations, while maintaining a focus on student service, accuracy, and data integrity. The Financial Aid Officer plays a key role in supporting institutional goals related to access, retention, and compliance.

Responsibilities
  • Advise and assist students and families in understanding and completing the financial aid process, including application requirements, award eligibility, and disbursement timelines.
  • Review and process financial aid applications in accordance with regulatory and institutional guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate and organized documentation for all student records to support compliance, audits, and reporting activities.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with students, families, staff, and external stakeholders to resolve issues and deliver excellent service.
  • Collaborate with enrollment, academic, and business units to ensure timely aid packaging and to support student retention efforts.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to remain current with evolving financial aid regulations and best practices.
  • Perform complex cognitive tasks such as evaluating conflicting information, interpreting regulations, and exercising independent judgment in decision-making.
  • Demonstrate advanced verbal and written communication skills in routine and high-stress situations involving students or co-workers.
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced environment, quickly adapting to shifting institutional, regulatory, or student needs.
Requirements Education
  • Associate’s degree required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience
  • Experience in financial aid, student services, or higher education administration preferred but not required.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and apply regulatory guidance and institutional policies.
