Seasonal Tour Boat Guide​/Gift Shop

Moraine Preservation Fund is accepting applications for part-time seasonal employment for friendly, engaging, and dependable interpretive guides for the 40-passenger tour boat operated at Moraine State Park. Additional office duties will include gift shop sales and customer service relations. This hybrid position is well-suited for retirees, individuals with educational or environmental backgrounds, or professionals seeking meaningful part-time seasonal work in a beautiful outdoor setting.

This position combines:

• Public speaking and interpretive guiding aboard our 40-passenger tour boat, confidently delivering structured and engaging presentations to groups of varying sizes
• Retail sales and customer service in our gift shop, providing a welcoming, attentive, and professional experience for every visitor
• Technology use, including operating a POS system, managing online bookings, and utilizing office software for memberships, scheduling, and communication
• Assisting captains with docking procedures and prioritizing passenger safety during boarding and disembarking
• Using park knowledge to accurately answer visitor questions and enhance each guest’s experience
• Serving as a reliable ambassador for our nonprofit organization, representing our mission with professionalism, clear communication, and consistent follow-through

We seek candidates who are highly reliable, punctual, and comfortable speaking to groups of up to 40 passengers, including school groups. Applicants must be willing to learn and deliver a scripted interpretive tour, adapt communication styles for diverse audiences, and confidently use technology. The ideal candidate remains calm and professional under pressure, communicates consistently with supervisors, and understands that reliability and punctuality is essential—especially during our busy fall charter season in September and October.

• Deliver interpretive tours using a prepared script
• Provide excellent customer service in the gift shop
• Operate POS system and handle cash/credit transactions
• Opening/Closing procedures in gift shop
• Assist with boarding, docking lines, and passenger safety
• Lift up to 20 pounds and navigate stairs frequently
• Work independently and as part of a small team

• Pennsylvania Boater Safety Certificate
• Child Abuse Clearances

Certifications must be completed prior to the season start (May 2nd). MPF will reimburse costs upon successful completion.

• Pre-season training beginning April 20th
• Active season:
  May through October 31
• Typical schedule includes weekends, 1–2 weekdays per week, and evenings
• Availability during peak fall season (September and October) is strongly preferred

Additionally, we are seeking an employee willing to work:

• Holiday shopping weekends (Saturdays and Sundays between November 28 and December 20th)
• Winterfest (first Saturday in February)

• Meaningful work supporting park projects and programs
• Outdoor setting on the water
• Opportunity to engage with visitors of all ages
