Job SummaryThe Field Service Engineer is responsible for performing daily service activities including installation, de-installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair needs of customer’s instrumentation. This role supports clinical and research customers by ensuring instruments operate reliably, accurately, and in compliance with quality and regulatory standards. The engineer performs preventative maintenance, basic repairs, calibrations, and functional verification, while documenting service activities according to company and regulatory requirements.
Working closely with senior engineers, technical support, and customers, the Field Service Engineer develops strong technical expertise, customer service skills, and an understanding of laboratory workflows and molecular diagnostic applications. The Field Service Engineer is also responsible for establishing and maintaining proper business relationships with customers and business partners while cooperating with Seegene headquarters and the U.S. office.
The Field Service Engineer will have the opportunity to travel and demonstrate their expertise with Seegene technologies/instruments across the nation but primarily on the east coast.
Job ResponsibilitiesInstrument Service & Support
- Install, commission, and qualify Seegene instrumentation at customer sites
- Perform preventive maintenance (PM), corrective maintenance (CM), and emergency repairs
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, fluidic, and software-related issues
- Execute instrument calibrations, alignments, and performance verification
- Support assay-related troubleshooting in collaboration with Applications and Technical Support teams
Customer Interaction
- Serve as a primary technical contact for assigned customers and territories
- Provide user training on instrument operation, basic maintenance, and best practices
- Communicate technical findings clearly to customers and internal teams
- Manage service visits efficiently to minimize instrument downtime
Documentation & Quality Compliance
- Complete service reports, installation records, and maintenance documentation accurately and on time
- Follow company SOPs, safety procedures, and quality system requirements
- Support instrument validation activities (IQ/OQ/PQ) as required
- Participate in audits and inspections as needed
Logistics & Territory Management
- Manage spare parts inventory, tools, and test equipment
- Coordinate scheduling, travel, and service priorities within assigned region
- Provide feedback to Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams on product performance and field issues
Additional responsibilities may be assigned over time based on business needs, individual performance, and company growth.
Minimum/Required Qualifications- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or any other related engineering field preferred
- Familiarity with laboratory instrumentation or automation
- Basic understanding of mechanical systems, electrical systems, and fluidics
- Ability to follow technical manuals, SOP’s, and troubleshooting guides
- Must have reliable transportation, possess a valid driver’s license, and carry adequate auto insurance
- High degree of mechanical aptitude
- Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
- Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs
- Must be a self-starter, able to travel and work independently with minimal supervision
- Willing to work flexible hours and overtime on short notice
- Basic awareness of regulated environments (clinical labs, IVD, GMP, ISO)
- Coursework or hands-on experience with liquid handlers, PCR, qPCR, molecular biology workflow, and automated sample preparation
- Strong understanding of laboratory safety protocols
