* Obstetrics and Gynecology Laborist physician to join a growing Laborist practice located in Mishawaka, Indiana.
Part time
ShiftRotating 12‑hour shifts (7am–7pm and 7pm–7am) or 24‑hour shifts (7am–7am), usually one week on and one week off (final schedule dependent on other candidates).
Job Duties- Must adhere to the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services.
- Required to maintain active membership status on the medical staff of SJHS‑SB and/or SJHS‑Ply, with full and unrestricted privileges.
- Primary Consultants for Low‑Risk Family Medicine patients
- Direct Supervision and Informal Education of Family Medicine Residents
- Family Medicine C/S or other related procedures
- Unassigned, or emergent, patient management and delivery
- Patients transported to SJRMC will be cared for by the Laborist on duty. (Daily Management by MFM)
- TOLAC Patient Care. Per policy, TOLAC patients are monitored by the attending physician of record unless prior arrangements are made with the Laborist on duty at the time for that patient’s labor monitoring. Laborists agree to labor “sit” in early labor. Attending Provider assumes management and delivery when patient is in active labor
- Attendance at Daily Multidisciplinary Morning Rounds
- Any Antepartum, Intrapartum, Postpartum Obstetric Emergency until Provider on‑site.
- Available for consultation with OB Triage Providers. Our NP and Midwife Colleagues who provide Triage services for OB, will evaluate patients and then call the on‑call obstetrician covering for the attending of record when they evaluate an established patient.
- There’s no Laborist office. Hospital support comes from MFM program, residents, nursing staff, In‑House OB Anesthesia 24/7, OB Triage (staffed by APNs (NPs & CNMs))
- Board Certification required within 5 years of Residency Program Completion.
- Must be
1) MD or DO and
2) Board Eligible and Board Certified within 5 years of training required. - (BLS) and ACLS sponsored by the American Heart Association (AHA) is required. If an initial application has a non‑AHA ACLS, they must obtain AHA ACLS certification upon renewal.
- Completion of an ACGME or AOA accredited residency training program in obstetrics and gynecology.
- Certification in obstetrics and gynecology by the appropriate specialty/subspecialty board of the ABMS or the AOA. Those applicants who are not board certified at the time of application but who have completed their residency or fellowship training within the last five years shall be eligible for Medical Staff appointment. However, in order to remain eligible, those applicants must achieve board certification in their primary area of practice within five (5) years from the date of completion of their residency or fellowship training;
and maintain certification and, to the extent required by the applicable specialty/subspecialty board, satisfy recertification requirements. - National Certification Corporation (NCC) Certification in electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) or Perinatal Quality Foundation certification in Fetal Monitoring Credentialing (FMC). Physician applying for initial privileges will have 12 months from initial appointment to achieve certification.
- Clinical Experience (Initial Appointment) Demonstration of providing inpatient for at least 50 obstetric patients in the past 2 years. Retrospective chart review of the next 3 cases will be performed if a physician does not meet the requirement
- Documentation of performance of 20 female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgical procedures in the last 2 years
