The Certified IV Tech plays a vital role in delivering safe, high-quality patient care by preparing sterile intravenous medications using aseptic technique in accordance with USP standards and organizational policies. Working under the supervision of a pharmacist, this role compounds, labels, and prepares IV admixtures with a high level of accuracy while maintaining cleanroom and environmental controls. The Certified IV Tech supports efficient pharmacy operations by contributing to timely medication preparation and clear communication within the pharmacy team.
Through technical skill, attention to detail, and commitment to safety, the position supports the organization’s mission of patient-centered care and clinical excellence.
- Compound sterile IV medications using proper aseptic technique within cleanroom environments, following established policies and regulatory standards.
- Calculate medication doses, concentrations, and volumes accurately based on patient needs and pharmacist direction.
- Prepare, label, and document IV admixtures and related products to ensure accuracy, traceability, and compliance.
- Maintain cleanroom conditions by performing routine cleaning, environmental monitoring tasks, and proper garbing procedures.
- Assist pharmacists and pharmacy staff with related tasks such as inventory management, restocking, and medication transport.
- Follow all safety, quality, and infection control protocols to support safe and efficient sterile compounding operations.
- Active Pharmacy Technician Registration in the State of North Dakota.

- Requires completion of aseptic technique training including Aseptic technique video
- Demonstrate proper use of the Horizontal / Vertical flow hood with Registered Pharmacist or Certified technician
- Demonstrate proper hand washing technique
- Demonstrate proper Hood Cleaning technique with Horizontal flow hoods and Vertical flow hoods

The Certified IV Tech frequently stands for extended periods while working in cleanroom environments and may perform repetitive hand and arm movements during compounding procedures. The role requires the ability to lift, carry, and move medication supplies and equipment of moderate weight. Adequate vision, hearing, and manual dexterity are essential for measuring ingredients, reading labels, and ensuring accuracy in sterile preparation.
EnvironmentalRequirements
Work occurs primarily in a controlled cleanroom setting with exposure to aseptic hoods, disinfectants, and personal protective equipment. The role may also involve routine tasks in the main pharmacy, where noise levels, temperature, and activity vary. Strict adherence to sterile compounding regulations, PPE requirements, and safety protocols is mandatory to maintain a compliant and contamination free environment.
