has an opening for an Oil & Gas Field Inspector in the Minot field and office area
. The Oil and Gas Division regulates the drilling and production of oil & gas in North Dakota. Annual Hiring Salary Range
: $53,400 - $59,640 ($4,450 - $4,970 per month)

Role

As an Oil & Gas Field Inspector
, you will play a key role in the Oil & Gas Division's mission by inspecting all phases of oil operations in the field including:

Inspections and Compliance
  • Perform drilling rig inspections to verify compliance with permits and regulations; collect geologic and operational data as required.
  • Inspect plugged well sites and monitor reclamation progress.
  • Evaluate permitted locations for environmental concerns and reclamation needs.
  • Observe and verify procedures such as well integrity tests, well plugging and oil purchasing operations.
  • Inspect oil exploration and production sites, wells, and associated facilities as needed.
  • Document inspections in the field activity database and ensure timely synchronization.
  • Investigate public complaints.
  • Notify operators of violations and monitor corrective actions.
  • Oversee spill inspections and remediation efforts.
Communication and Stakeholder Engagement
  • Serve as liaison with the Field Operations Manager, District Supervisor, Operators, Mineral Owners and Others to address compliance issues and provide field updates.
  • Respond to public and operator inquiries, investigate complaints, and provide regulatory guidance.
Flexibility

The position requires flexibility with daily schedule and will at times need to work after normal business hours on weekends and holidays.

To Be Considered For This Role You Must Have
  • A bachelor's degree in Geology, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Mathematics, Petroleum or Geological Engineering, or other very closely related majors; OR
  • A closely related Associate's degree and two years of industry experience, and continued employment contingent upon obtaining a certificate in Petroleum Engineering within two years of start.
As Well As
  • A valid North Dakota driver's license with current insurance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to take initiative and lead by example.
  • The ability to understand and comply with North Dakota state law and Department of Mineral Resources policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, etc.) and GIS.

Also requires the ability to climb ladders; bend and stoop; stand for long periods; walk on uneven terrain for up to two miles; operate a four‑wheel drive vehicle in all types of weather conditions and terrain; carry 30 pounds of personal protective equipment (mask, air tank), with the ability to quickly don the equipment while quickly exiting the area during an emergency.
