We are seeking motivated, reliable, and energetic Youth Soccer Staff Coaches to help lead our growing Recreational Development Program, Pre-Competitive Program, Tonka Juniors, with the additional opportunities to support Camps, Events, and Competitive Teams.

JOB OBJECTIVE

Under the guidance of Tonka United Directors and Full-Time Coaching Staff, Youth Soccer Staff Coaches will lead and support high-quality training and game-day experiences for players ages 4–18, while helping shape a positive, development-focused soccer culture.

This role is accountable to the Directors and Full-Time Coaches of the organization and plays a key leadership role within the Recreational Development Program.

ELIGIBILITY & SELECTION

  • Must be 18+ (post–high school, college students encouraged to apply)
  • Application and interview required
  • Selected by Director or Operations & Director or Coaching

ROLE & SCOPE

  • Lead Recreational Development Program training sessions from April 27 to June 27, Monday–Thursday, 5:00–8:00 PM, while supporting the overall delivery and quality of the program.
  • Coordinate with your Junior Staff Coaches and Parent Volunteer Coaches to ensure consistent curriculum and coaching standards
  • Review sessions in advance and follow Tonka United’s training guidelines and session plans
  • Mentor players from Pre-K through High School
  • Maintain a positive, professional, and engaging training environment
  • Assigned to specific weekly groups/teams for continuity and player development
  • Help evaluate and identify players for progression into competitive team pathways, maintaining Tonka United’s performance standards and communicating key player insights to Directors.

GAME DAY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the site schedule, field flow, and Volunteer check-in
  • Observe and support your weekly groups/teams while parent volunteers lead games
  • Step in if a referee or coach is missing
  • Step in to make key coaching points, and observations to players
  • Identify and engage players who show potential for the competitive pathway
  • Serve as a Tonka United ambassador to families, staff, and the community

COMPLIANCE & TRAINING

  • Safe Sport Certification
  • CDC Concussion Training
  • US Soccer Coaching Licenses: Free Introduction to Grassroots Coaching & Grassroots 4v4 Online Courses ($25 reimbursed after completion)
  • In-person “Coaching a Session” training with Director of Coaching (target: April 22)

COMPENSATION & COMMITMENT

  • Spring/Summer Season: $2,500 stipend
  • 8–10 hours per week: 9-week season (April 27 – June 27)

ONGOING OPPORTUNITIES

Additional paid hours may be available at $20/hr for:

  • Summer Camps
  • Tournaments
  • Events
  • Fall Rec Season $2,500 stipend (August–October 2026)

JOB SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Basic soccer knowledge (playing or coaching background preferred, not required)
  • Comfortable in a high-energy, fast-paced environment
  • Self-motivated and dependable
  • Adaptable, positive, and growth-minded
  • Reliable transportation
  • Availability for all scheduled training and games
  • Primarily evenings Mon-Thurs (5–8 PM) during April-June
