The teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing will provide consultation and direct instruction for deaf and hard‑of‑hearing students born through age 21+ within their educational setting(s).
Key responsibilities include assessment and identification of children with potential hearing loss, serving as a resource and liaison to parents, educators, and outside agencies, reviewing medical/audiological information, implementing specialized areas such as auditory training, speech reading, hearing aid maintenance, and interpreter use, and determining the need for and selection of hearing technologies.
They will participate in IEP/IFSP/IIIP development, collaborate with the special education team, communicate with parents at conferences, establish effective learning atmosphere behavior standards, maintain professional development, train on third‑party reimbursement, and work collaboratively with colleagues.
Specific Responsibilities- Experience working with children and families with specialized education needs and hearing loss.
- Ability to apply appropriate skills in daily routines.
- Computer proficiency, including relevant software and technology.
- Strong written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- Professional composure in varied situations.
- Self‑starter initiative.
Minnesota PreK‑12 Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH) license. ASL proficiency at Intermediate Plus or higher (SLPI). Lower rating allows Oral/Aural Deaf Education license.
