This Minnetonka-based leadership role is ideal for a construction executive with direct solar construction experience and a proven ability to manage complex electrical infrastructure projects. The Director of Construction will oversee national project execution while continuously improving workflows, increasing operational capacity, and mentoring team members to support long-term expansion. The position is on-site in Minnetonka, MN, with travel to customer and project locations as required.
We are seeking a dynamic, decisive leader who thrives in fast-paced environments, can manage multiple moving parts, and brings strong technical knowledge of solar EPC, electrical systems, permitting, and interconnection processes. Solar construction experience is required for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead national construction scheduling, staffing strategy, resource allocation, and capacity planning from the Minnetonka, Minnesota office.
- Build, train, mentor, and manage a high-performance in-house solar construction team.
- Oversee subcontractor and vendor relationships to ensure alignment with safety, cost, and quality standards.
- Manage project scope, budgets, cost controls, and financial performance in partnership with project management leadership.
- Implement and refine construction processes to improve execution efficiency and support continued company growth.
- Establish and maintain quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) programs across all solar construction projects.
- Facilitate project kick-off and close-out meetings, ensuring clear accountability and documentation.
- Communicate proactively with customers, internal teams, and leadership regarding project milestones, risks, and solutions.
- Ensure compliance with building codes, licensing requirements, permitting regulations, and interconnection standards.
- Drive team accountability through hiring, training, coaching, and performance management.
- Extensive construction management experience, with direct solar energy construction experience required.
- Proven ability to build and scale high-performing construction teams, including hands-on workforce development.
- Strong background in electrical infrastructure construction and familiarity with solar EPC execution models.
- Working knowledge of permitting, inspection processes, interconnection requirements, and general contracting standards.
- Demonstrated success managing complex, multi-site construction projects with tight schedules and budgets.
- Strong financial acumen with the ability to manage project costs and forecast capacity needs.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- High-level critical thinking and decision-making abilities under pressure.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace tools.
- Educational background in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related discipline preferred but not required.
