Compensation: $75,000 - $85,000 / year
Shelter Corporation is seeking a highly organized individual with strong analytic and problem solving skills to join our team as a Senior Accountant.
Position Summary & Primary ResponsibilitiesThe Senior Accountant position is responsible for the accurate and complete preparation of property financial statements that conform to accounting principles, regulatory requirements, and adhere with management's recommendations and industry practices. In addition, this position is responsible for the following:
- Ensuring accurate and complete financial statements for Shelter Corporation managed properties
- Compiling and analyzing financial information to prepare entries to general ledger accounts, as well as documenting business transactions
- Monitoring current and projected cash at each property to determine available cash for payables and/or distributions
- Providing input to senior leadership regarding drivers of property performance
- Reconciling monthly activities such as cash receipts, accounts payable, accounts receivable, gross potential rent, and vacancy to the general ledger
- Completing monthly general ledger reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts ensuring all transactions are recorded properly
- Auditing workflows to ensure all accounting transactions are appropriately authorized
- Analyzing financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and preparing balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other reports to summarize current and projected property financial positions
- Examining records to determine that acquisitions, sales, and other entries have been completed
- Assisting with the development and monitoring of financial budgets and regular forecasts
- Performing month‑end and year‑end financial accounting and reporting duties, including assisting with the year‑end property audits
- Providing input on process improvements and working to incorporate best practices wherever possible
- Identifying any opportunities for improvement in internal controls to prevent inaccuracies in accounting statements
- Reviewing period financial data to ensure it is fair and complete
- Performing special projects and other duties as assigned
- BA/BS in Accounting or related field
- 3-5 years of progressive experience
- Solid knowledge of GAAP, IRC, FASB, accrual-based accounting, organizational auditing, fixed asset accounting, and tax filing requirements
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Wide knowledge of different software systems, with strong computer usage experience
- Yardi experience preferred
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
