Senior Accountant

Specialty Benefits is a growing area within Employer & Individual at United Healthcare. In this role you will support our Dental business and may also work on other products such as Vision and Stop Loss. The position is full‑time and requires flexibility to work any 8‑hour shift schedule during normal business hours (8:00 am – 5:00 pm). Occasional overtime may be required. Training will be provided on a flexible schedule.

• Maintain a working knowledge of the accounting systems.
• Create and document journal entries (journal upload, general ledger queries).
• Provide on‑demand claims and revenue detail to support customer needs.
• Prepare account reconciliations.
• Update month‑end reports to ensure management has data to drive decision‑making.
• Analyze month‑over‑month and year‑over‑year fluctuations in accounts.
• Improve business and accounting processes, leveraging latest technology to automate and digitalize processes.
• Support audit, compliance and regulatory requirements for regulated entities by preparing requested data from the GL, sub‑ledgers or other data repositories.

• Bachelor's degree in accounting.
• Minimum 1 year of professional accounting experience.
• Understanding and practical application of U.S. GAAP.
• Experience with Microsoft Excel (formulas, tables, VLOOKUP).
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Ability to work full‑time and flexible shifts between 8:00 am – 5:00 pm; occasional overtime may be necessary.

• CPA and/or MBA.
• Public accounting experience.
• Experience with Hyperion Smartview/Essbase, People Soft, and/or Blackline.
• SQL and/or SAS skills and experience working with large databases.

• Reside within commutable distance of our office locations at 9700 Health Care Ln, Minnetonka, MN 55343 or 1985 Marcus Ave Ste 110, New Hyde Park, NY 11042.
• Maintain a dedicated, secure work area that meets the company’s privacy requirements.
• Have or be able to obtain a United Health Group‑approved high‑speed internet connection.

Salary range: $58,800 - $105,000 annually (full‑time). We also provide a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase, and 401(k) contribution. Salary is commensurate with education, work experience, certifications, and local labor markets.
