Position Overview

Cohron Ready Mix, a CRH Company, supplies ready‑mix concrete from plants in Glenwood, Carson, and Avoca. The Ready‑Mix Driver transports freshly mixed concrete from the plant to job sites in a safe manner, adjusting equipment and material as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Comply with all Department of Transportation requirements, including licensing, vehicle inspection, and hours of service.
  • Operate the truck safely and professionally on public highways, roads, yard area, and various job sites to deliver materials.
  • Inspect the truck each workday and complete the Driver Check‑off Sheet indicating all systems function properly.
  • Maneuver the truck to deliver concrete to the point of delivery; load truck under batching plant or hopper to receive concrete.
  • Climb the ladder (~10‑12 ft) to view concrete load consistency and inspect the drum for cleanliness.
  • Adjust trailer axle pressure based on load weight.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions, including city street maps and directions, and complete necessary paperwork.
  • Assemble concrete chute(s) weighing 30‑50 pounds each.
  • Use hand signals while operating the truck.
  • Maintain truck cleanliness, including spraying, cleaning after loads, and preventing concrete buildup in the mixer.
  • Meet all eligibility requirements for driving a commercial motor vehicle in interstate commerce as defined by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and the Department of Transportation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in ready‑mixed trucks or related industry preferred.
Work Requirements
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must pass pre‑employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Must possess and maintain a Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Medical Card as required by DOT.
  • Report to the plant dressed appropriately and ready to begin work at the designated start time.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to work independently within a team environment and assist the team with other duties as required.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is required and must be willing to work nights, weekends and holidays when necessary.
Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements
  • Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Coping well in stressful environments and communicating professionally.
  • Demonstrate a hands‑on, collaborative approach; work well in a team and independently.
  • Read plant site maps, city street maps, and other GPS‑based equipment information.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and basic math skills; read and interpret mixer truck gauges.
  • Utilize a tablet for load status, timekeeping, training, and other items.
  • Take guidance and direction from a supervisor.
Physical Requirements
  • Communicate with others by email, telephone, and in person.
  • Regularly sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequently stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and talk or hear.
  • Make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp or manipulate switches and controls.
  • Climb stairs, ladders, inclined walkways and access elevated platforms.
Work Environment

The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. Exposure to fumes or airborne particles, typical seasonal cold and heat temperatures, and vibration. Noise level is usually moderate.
