Junior High Baseball Coach

CHATFIELD PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Responsibilities
  • Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
  • Has previous successful coaching experience in the assigned sport (major sports).
  • The head coach must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport.
  • Must continuously examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.
  • The head coach must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instruction and actions.
  • Reports to the athletic director and provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with high school principals.
  • Supervises and coordinates a staff of high school assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and respective principal.
  • Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for individual and team success while modeling behaviors that promote socially acceptable character development, self‑discipline, self‑confidence, and pride of accomplishment.
  • Upgrades knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultations.
  • Ensures athletic programs positively influence community image while maintaining sportsmanship and mental health objectives.
  • Includes other unusual aspects such as extended time, risk of injury, and due procedure considerations as required by this job description.
Job Goal

To instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for individual and team success, while fostering character development, self‑discipline, confidence, and pride of accomplishment.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Has a thorough knowledge of all athletic policies approved by the Plainwell Community Schools' Board of Education and is responsible for implementing them by the entire staff of the sports program.
  • Has knowledge of existing system, state, and league regulations; implements them consistently and interprets them for staff.
  • Understands the proper administrative line of command and refers all requests or grievances through proper channels.
Staff Responsibilities
  • Established the fundamental philosophy, skills and techniques to be taught by staff; designs conferences, clinics, and staff meetings to ensure staff awareness of the overall program.
  • Trains and informs staff, encouraging professional growth by encouraging clinic attendance according to local clinic policy.
  • Delegates specific duties, supervises implementation, and at season's end, analyzes staff effectiveness and evaluates all assistants.
  • Maintains discipline, adjusts grievances, and works to increase morale and cooperation.
  • Performs other duties assigned by the athletic director or principal.
Administrative Duties
  • Assists the athletic director in scheduling, providing transportation and requirements for tournament and special sport events.
  • Assists in the preparation of scheduled sport events or practices and adheres to scheduled facility times, coordinating the program with maintenance and school employees.
  • Provides documentation to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility.
  • Provides proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment sites.
  • Advises the athletic director and recommends policy, method, or procedural changes.
Student Responsibilities
  • Serves as a mentor to each athlete, promoting the development of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
  • Gives constant attention to a student athlete's grades and conduct.
  • Provides assistance, guidance, and safeguards for each participant by being present at all practices, games, and travel.
  • Provides training rules and unique regulations of the sport to each athlete who is considered a participant.
  • Initiates programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention, and emergencies.
  • Completes paperwork on all disabling athletic injuries on proper forms and submits to the athletic office within 24 hours.
  • Directs student managers, assistants, and statisticians.
