Journeyman Union Scale. $45.50 per hour (based on experience and/or size and type of equipment)

Job Summary:
The Bottom Person (Utility Crew) is responsible for working in excavations or trenches to assist with the installation, alignment, and connection of underground utility pipes. This role is critical in ensuring proper grade, pipe placement, and safe trench operations under the direction of the Utility Foreman or Top Person.

Other Requirements: All candidates are required to pass a thorough Background Check, Physical and Drug Test. References may also be checked. We participate in E-Verify.

Job Duties & Requirements:

  • Assisting the pipe layer in aligning and assembling pipe in ditches
  • Cleaning and lubricating pipe ends to guide pipe sections together
  • Back filling and compacting along sides of pipe
  • Operating vibrating compacter in trenches (i.e. "whacker")
  • Performing general laborer duties that take place in trenches
  • Must have the ability to hear, speak and follow directions carefully.
  • Continually required to reach, pull, carry, grab, pull, and lift.
  • Must possess be able to work in all types of weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift 50+ pounds regularly on a daily basis
  • Display a professional and respectful attitude towards co-workers, supervisors, inspectors, and the general public at all times.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors.
  • Communicate effectively with crew members and supervisors.
  • Follow company and industry safety standards and procedures at all times.
Preferred Education and Experience:
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience is preferred
  • Ability to work independently with little to no supervision
  • Know and understand grades and slopes
  • Excavation and trench safety
  • Confined space safety
  • Experience using basic hand and power tools
  • Team-oriented with strong communication skills.
  • Reliable, punctual, and committed to safety and quality.
  • Must be safety-conscious, reliable, and able to work well in a team environment.
  • Willingness to work extended hours, early mornings, and weekends as needed.
  • High school education or GED equivalent.
  • Strong team player
  • Reliable and on-time.
