ABOUT NORTH OAKS GOLF CLUB
North Oaks, MN | James J. Hill purchased over 3,000 acres of land 20 minutes north of downtown St. Paul in 1883 to create an experimental farm. His son, Louis W. Hill Sr. preserved the land until his death in 1948 when he left the title to the property to his four children. Son, Louis W. Hill Jr. increased the size of the land to over 5,500 acres with the sole purpose of creating a residential community complete with a beach, dedicated park, and an 18-hole golf course.
Louis W. Hill Jr. formed North Oaks Company and retained a professional community planner to carry out the vision, which over time has increased to more than 1,800 households and 5,000 residents today.
In 1950, Stanley Thompson was hired to design North Oaks Golf Club, which opened for play in 1951 and later became a private club in 1953. North Oaks remains the last golf course in North America that Thompson designed. In 2007 the club hired Tom Lehman to consult and make some updates to our course along with further enhancements made from 2018 through the planned 2.0 vision of 2026.
North Oaks community continues to remain a top private community in the Twin Cities with private roads, recreation, and its own golf course. The Club enjoys a full membership of 640 golf and social members with over 85% of these members residing in North Oaks.
