We invite expressions of interest from excellent researchers planning to apply for a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship (MSCA PF) under Horizon Europe.
The University of Oulu is an international science university that fosters new knowledge, well-being, and innovations. It is one of Finland's largest and most multidisciplinary universities, with 14,000 students and nearly 4,000 employees, and is located in the north of Finland.
The position open is in the Research Unit of Clinical Medicine which belongs to the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Oulu. The Research Unit of Clinical Medicine conducts high‑quality basic and clinical research across a wide range of medical specialties, using epidemiological, genetic, biomedical and intervention methods to advance disease prevention, diagnosis and treatment while also providing core medical and postgraduate education.
The proposed research focuses on gut microbiota-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) as functional mediators of host‑microbe interactions, integrating EV‑specific multi‑omics data with gut microbiome profiles. The project aims to develop and apply advanced bioinformatics and statistical methods to characterise EV composition, cargo, and their associations with host phenotypes across health and disease.
The postdoctoral fellow will work in an interdisciplinary environment combining bioinformatics, microbiology, and translational health research
, with a strong emphasis on reproducible computational analysis.
- Bioinformatic analysis of gut microbiota-derived EV datasets
- Integration of EV cargo omics (proteomics, metabolomics, lipidomics, RNA) with gut microbiome data (16S rRNA, metagenomics)
- Statistical modelling, multivariate analysis, and data visualisation in R
- Pipeline development, automation, and scalable data processing in Python
- Reproducible workflows, version control, and open science practices
- PhD in bioinformatics, Microbiology, computational biology, data science, biostatistics, or a related field
- Strong proficiency in Python and R (essential)
- Experience with omics and high-dimensional biological data
- Familiarity with microbiome or extracellular vesicle data analysis is an advantage
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an international research environment
- Access to unique gut microbiota-derived EV and microbiome datasets
- Strong supervision and structured support for MSCA PF proposal preparation
- Advanced training in bioinformatics, statistics, and interdisciplinary research
- Integration into international academic and non‑academic research networks
Interested candidates are encouraged to contact the host supervisor early to jointly develop a competitive MSCA PF proposal aligned with the fellow’s expertise and long-term career goals.
