Seeking Full‑time Pig Production Technicians for a sow farm located near Wells, MN. You will have hands‑on interaction with livestock and maintain structured routines.
Essential Functions- Ensure the highest standards of humane treatment of animals.
- Follow the farm’s bio‑security protocols at all times.
- Monitor and assist with feeding systems, ensuring animals are fed and watered per protocol.
- Maintain overall animal health, care, and treatment.
- Perform routine and seasonal vaccinations and injections as directed.
- Perform general facility cleaning, maintenance, and hygiene.
- Power wash following the farm’s cleaning and disinfection processes, ensuring equipment is effective and efficient.
- Assist with recording and maintaining accurate production records and documentation.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures; communicate hazards and near‑misses to the Department Lead or Manager.
- Perform heat checking and breeding/insemination processes.
- Monitor, test, and care for pregnant sows.
- Assist with weaning piglets and moving animals between barns and departments.
- Prepare farrow rooms, assist proper farrowing of sows, and day‑one pig care.
- Assist with fostering piglets.
- Process and castrate piglets.
- Adjust and hang heat lamps as required; check heat mats.
The employee experiences constant exposure to dust, animal dander, and odor. Noise is often loud. Employees stand and walk on concrete throughout the shift. Seasonally, exposure to heat, humidity, and other extreme barn conditions occurs.
Physical DemandsRequired ordinary ambulatory skills to move throughout the farm, lift, carry, and manipulate weights up to 50 pounds. Good hand‑eye coordination and dexterity are essential. Activities include standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, bending, climbing, repetitive motions, and communication.
