Classification Summary
County Department of Human Services is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time (40 hours per week) Registered Nurse (PHN Track) to join the Public Health & Human Services Department. This position will work with various Public Health programs including but not limited to Family Home Visits, and WIC. Provide community-based services case management and other essential public health functions as required.
A professional employee, acting under the general supervision of the Public Health Supervisor and oversight from a Public Health Nurse (PHN), a Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing the full range of essential public health services enumerated in Minn. Stat. §145A.02, Subd. 1a. Areas of Public Health Responsibility and Subd. 8a. Essential Public Health Services. Work in collaboration with Public Health unit colleagues to promote healthy communities and individual behaviors.

• Provides skilled nursing care and prescribed medical treatment to patients and demonstrates care to patients, families, practical nurses, and aides.
• Identifies, observes, reports and records symptoms and conditions of patients.
• Assists as a team member in the development of nursing care plans.
• Gives medically ordered immunizations, tuberculin tests, treatment and medication.
• Assists with medical examination, takes histories, and performs screening and recording activities at clinic and schools.
• May give directions and assignments to licensed practical nurses and/or home health aides.
• Helps explain agency services and policies to persons receiving service and to other persons with whom she works.
• Gives general information to the public about the local public health agency and its services.
• Attends staff meetings and participates in continuing educational programs.

Minimum Qualifications
Registered Nurse:
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Minnesota in the State of Minnesota.
Houston County Preferred Qualifications:
A degree from an accredited school of nursing, and current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Minnesota
Two years nursing experience, preferably with a Public Health Agency
** As a condition of employment the County requires the employee to complete a BSN and obtain a MN Public Health Nurse Certificate within 3 years of employment.
Examination Process
The examination will consist of a rating of training and experience based on the information you provide in your application and your responses to the supplemental questions included in the application process. You must read the questions carefully, answer truthfully, and include any experience claimed in your answers to the supplemental questions in the "work experience" section of your application. Any experience claimed in your answers to the supplemental questions but not included in the Work Experience section of you application will not be credited.
