This position is designated as full‑time with day/evening rotating shifts with some weekend and holiday shifts.
Job SummaryThe LPN performs duties to assist practitioners and Registered Nurses in providing health care to incarcerated individuals.
Responsibilities include:
- Perform functions related to “rooming” the incarcerated individual for practitioner examinations, including obtaining blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, weight and documenting complaints.
- Perform phlebotomy functions with incarcerated individuals, including collecting blood and urine samples and performing other tests ordered by the practitioner.
- Conduct Blood Pressure Clinic and other chronic care clinics with incarcerated individuals.
- Administer medication as prescribed by the practitioner.
- Graduation from an approved school of nursing plus current licensure in Minnesota as a Practical Nurse without limitations or restrictions.
- Computer experience sufficient to complete electronic charting and use basic computer functions such as email.
- Hands‑on clinical nursing experience providing direct patient care in a hospital, long‑term care and/or clinic setting.
- Nursing experience in a correctional or secured setting.
- Experience working in a correctional or secured setting.
- Nursing experience in a specialized clinical area(s), such as in gender‑specific, geriatric, juvenile health care, medical/surgery unit, and/or behavioral health.
The completion of pre‑placement physical components may be required for this position. These components consist of a tuberculosis screening and/or respirator clearance. - Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.
