Location: Lauderdale

Maajii-akii-gikenjigewin (Starting Out in Earth Conservation) engages Indigenous young adults, ages 18 and older, in hands‑on conservation and service projects across the Fond du Lac Reservation and the 1837, 1842, and 1854 ceded territories. In partnership with Fond du Lac Resource Management and Conservation Corps Minnesota & Iowa (CCMI), participants gain career‑ready skills through projects such as invasive species management, trail construction and maintenance, prescribed burning, habitat restoration, tree planting, wildland fire suppression, wildlife monitoring, and emergency response.

The program centers locally led conservation efforts that honor Tribal sovereignty, cultural knowledge, and community priorities. Participants complete the program with real‑world experience and a strong foundation for future careers in natural resources.

Projects include invasive species removal, community gardening, tree planting, prescribed burning, wildlife surveying, habitat restoration, and more!

Training/certifications include CPR/First Aid, chainsaw use and safety, plant , wildland fire, and more.

Benefits include a $2,450-$2,600/month living stipend, an education award upon completion of the Ameri Corps term, time off for ceremony, childcare assistance, and more.
