Description
The Tower/Melt Engineer is responsible for supporting and coordinating daily operations within the Melting and Pouring departments. This role focuses on safe, efficient furnace operation, process control, quality compliance, and effective utilization of personnel and resources. The position works closely with production, maintenance, and quality teams and plays a key role in continuous improvement initiatives, including the installation and operation of a new Induction Furnace.
This role is ideal for an engineer seeking hands-on experience in industrial operations with increasing responsibility and leadership exposure.
Key ResponsibilitiesOperations & Process Control
- Monitor and support melting and pouring operations, including furnace performance and process stability.
- Set, monitor, and adjust process controls such as charge makeup and melt chemistry to meet production and quality requirements.
- Support operation of electric arc furnaces from the Melt Tower.
- Assist in refractory maintenance planning and coordination with maintenance teams.
People & Production Support
- Coordinate and support hourly personnel to optimize departmental performance.
- Assist with workforce adjustments based on production needs.
- Communicate operating expectations and provide technical support to operations teams.
Quality & ISO Compliance
- Maintain adherence to Quality Control procedures and ISO standards.
- Support calibration systems and participate in routine audits of departmental processes.
- Ensure training documentation, work instructions, and hands-on practices are aligned.
Safety
- Promote a safe work environment through enforcement of safety rules and proactive engagement.
- Participate in safety meetings, incident investigations, and corrective action development.
- Support housekeeping and “Right-to-Know” compliance.
Cost & Continuous Improvement
- Support initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs.
- Assist in developing and maintaining production standards, methods, and performance metrics.
- Maintain production reports and track key departmental data.
New Equipment Integration
- Provide engineering and operational support for the installation, commissioning, and ongoing operation of a new Induction Furnace.
- Coordinate with maintenance, production, safety, and external partners during startup and ramp-up phases.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Materials Science Engineering.
- 1–3 years of experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or production environment.
- Familiarity with Quality Control systems and ISO standards.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with both hourly and salaried teams.
- Demonstrated initiative and willingness to learn complex industrial processes.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively in team-based environments.
