AES is seeking a Welding Trainer who is responsible for training, developing, and qualifying welders across approved welding processes while ensuring full compliance with company policies, customer specifications, and safety standards. This position serves as the primary subject matter expert for welding training and certification.

When not actively engaged in training activities, the Welding Trainer will support manufacturing operations as a hands-on welder and will be classified as direct labor during those periods.

Overview

Key Responsibilities Training & Development (Primary Responsibility)
  • Train and develop new and current employees on approved welding processes, techniques, equipment, and safe work practices.
  • Instruct welders on the interpretation and application of weld symbols, blueprints, Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), and quality requirements.
  • Provide hands-on demonstrations, coaching, and immediate performance feedback to reinforce proper welding techniques.
  • Evaluate weld quality and assess welder competency in accordance with internal standards and customer specifications.
  • Qualify and certify welders as required, maintaining accurate records of training, certifications, and performance evaluations.
  • Partner with Quality, Engineering, and Production leadership to ensure alignment with approved procedures and operational standards.
Production Support (Secondary Responsibility)
  • Perform welding operations in accordance with established production requirements when not actively conducting training.
  • Support production schedules during periods of increased demand or staffing shortages.
  • Follow all approved welding procedures, safety protocols, and quality standards.
  • Serve as a technical welding resource and point of reference on the production floor.
Compensation
  • This role is eligible for a trainer premium in addition to the base hourly wage.
  • Employees performing Welding Trainer duties will receive a $2.00 per hour premium for hours worked in the trainer capacity, in accordance with company compensation policies.
Required Qualifications
  • Extensive hands-on experience in welding operations.
  • Strong working knowledge of weld symbols, engineering drawings, and Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, troubleshoot, and correct welding defects.
  • Effective communication, coaching, and instructional skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience training, mentoring, or coaching welders.
  • Current welding certifications (AWS or equivalent).
  • Experience supporting quality audits, inspections, or customer reviews.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, bend, and work in various physical positions for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift materials within company-established limits.
  • Ability to wear required welding personal protective equipment (PPE).
