The Job

Compensation is determined based on a variety of factors related to the specific position, including skills, relevant experience, education, internal equity, business needs, and local market conditions. The full range is shared for transparency, though offers are rarely made at the minimum or maximum of the range.

Summary

Skilled CNC machinist (mills and/or lathes) who can perform standard set‑ups and some complex set‑ups. Operates and adjusts CNC machines to perform standard and repetitive sequences of operations. Deburr parts, perform and document quality checks per the control plan. Replace tooling as necessary and perform general machine maintenance. May train others. Demonstrates persistence and dedication in achieving goals.

Hours:

Monday – Thursday (6:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.)

Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
  • Performs all job requirements per documented procedures, routings, CNC programs, inspection instructions, tool lists, SPC instructions, and any other related documents and instructions.
  • Operates computer‑controlled machines to perform one or more machine functions on various material work‑pieces.
  • Takes full ownership of work area and assumes responsibility for outcomes and results.
  • Routinely performs basic and complex set‑ups and makes offsets/work coordinates as needed.
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures and cutting tools using hand tools and tool‑length offset equipment.
  • Transfers programs and offsets from servers or USB drives to computer numerical control modules.
  • Reviews job router/traveler for pertinent job information such as work center designation, job size, machine rates, SPC requirements, etc.
  • Loads and unloads work‑pieces manually or with material‑handling equipment.
  • Checks accuracy of work against blueprints/specifications using advanced gaging techniques for product conformity and is able to interrupt and translate data into necessary adjustments.
  • Performs surface‑finish operations using sanding and deburring with finishing materials, hand tools and power equipment if required.
  • Monitors work‑pieces and equipment throughout the machining process to detect issues. Reports quality, process, cycle time, etc. variances to supervisor or lead as soon as they are identified.
  • Ensures coolant and hydraulic oil levels are maintained and changed as required. Performs routine PM checks.
  • Performs inventory material handling including retrieving, moving and storage of material, tooling, and work‑pieces.
  • Makes recommendations for process and cost improvements to appropriate personnel.
  • May provide training to employees.
  • Maintains an organized, clean, and safe environment and maintains 5 “S” standards. Complies with safety rules including PPE and OSHA standards.
  • Participates in Lean initiatives eliminating wastes including overproduction, defects, transportation, waiting, inventory, motion and over‑processing.
Required Skills and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years CNC machinist experience.
  • Routinely performs set‑ups including complex set‑ups and makes offsets/work coordinates as needed.
  • Intermediate math skills (e.g., trigonometry, geometry, etc.).
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Attention to detail.
