Position SummaryThe successful candidate will be a strong mechanical designer with experience designing automated equipment solutions. Responsible for designing, procurement, and fabrication of mechanical tooling and systems for custom automation equipment, ensuring specifications and requirements are met within budget and schedule.
Responsibilities- Generate designs and drawings in Solid Works for tooling and machines.
- Conduct design reviews with key stakeholders (engineering, management, operators) following design concept and final print release prior to build or purchase.
- Oversee procurement, fabrication, and assembly of components.
- Estimate design and fabrication costs and lead‑times.
- Act as liaison with internal and external assemblers/manufacturers to ensure parts meet design.
- Support and comply with the company’s quality system, ISO, and medical device requirements.
- Read, understand, and follow work instructions and standard work.
- Ensure business systems are implemented, maintained, and functioning properly.
- Participate in required company meetings and the Operational Excellence Program.
- Complete all other work duties as assigned.
- Work effectively in a manufacturing environment.
- 2‑year design‑related degree.
- 3+ years machine and tool design experience using Solid Works.
- Knowledge of mechanical parts and CAD software (AutoCAD, Solid Works).
- Experience with metal fabrication and assembly techniques (CNC machining, EDM, grinding, polishing, cutting, heat treatments, welding).
- Strong mechanical, tool, and machine building aptitude.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical thinking skills.
- Attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of servo, stepper motors, drives, robotic systems, vision systems, and integration.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of ASME Y14.5‑2009 drawing standards and geometric tolerancing.
- Microsoft Office proficiency.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced team, prioritize, and multitask.
- Continuing education, local chapter or association participation.
- CNC programming knowledge.
- Hands‑on experience with typical toolroom/machine shop equipment.
USD $36.06 – $54.13 /Hr (base hourly). Offers are rarely made at the minimum or maximum of the range.
