Controller or Sr. Controller/Director

Near Minnesota / Wisconsin Border (On-Site, hybrid opportunity down the road)

A growing, privately held food manufacturing company located near the Minnesota-Wisconsin border is seeking a Controller to lead its accounting operations. This is a high-visibility leadership role partnering closely with ownership and operations to drive financial performance, improve processes, and support continued growth.

Compensation

+ Controller: $120,000 - $140,000 base salary

+ Senior Controller / Director-level:
Up to ~$180,000 base salary (depending on experience and scope)

Position Overview

The Controller will oversee all accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting, and cash management for the organization. The ideal candidate will bring strong manufacturing accounting experience, leadership capability, and a hands-on approach appropriate for a small but growing company environment.

For candidates with broader leadership experience, the company is open to hiring at a Senior Controller or Director level with expanded strategic and operational responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

+ Lead all day-to-day accounting operations (GL, AP/AR, payroll oversight, cost accounting)

+ Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements

+ Manage budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis

+ Oversee inventory accounting and cost accounting within a manufacturing environment

+ Develop and maintain internal controls and process improvements

+ Partner cross-functionally with operations, supply chain, and executive leadership

+ Manage external audit and tax relationships

+ Support strategic planning and growth initiatives

+ Mentor and develop accounting staff

Requirements

Qualifications

+ Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred)

+ 5+ years of progressive accounting/finance leadership experience (Controller title preferred)

+ Manufacturing experience required; food manufacturing strongly preferred

+ Strong understanding of cost accounting and inventory management

+ Experience improving systems and processes in a small-to-mid-sized company environment

+ ERP experience required

+ Hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves leadership style

For Senior Controller/Director consideration:

+ 8-12+ years of leadership experience

+ Demonstrated strategic finance partnership with executive leadership

+ Experience scaling financial infrastructure in a growing company
