JOB SUMMARY

To provide students and staff with a clean and functional environment for education.

ASSIGNMENT

Non-Certified, 12-Month Position

Hours:

Work the afternoon shift during the school year and the day shift during summer break.
Pay:
Starting at $19.55/Hour

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
  • 5% Setups:
    Setting up what is needed in a timely fashion for all extracurricular activities.
  • 50% Cleaning Rooms:
    Includes trash removal, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, wiping blackboards/whiteboards, windows, walls, desks, pencil sharpeners, carpet spots, countertops, vents, light fixtures, door knobs, etc.
  • 10% Cleaning Bathrooms:
    Includes trash removal, sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping walls, sinks, toilets, partitions, urinals, soap dispensers, paper towels, mirrors, sanitary napkin baskets, vents, etc. restocking dispensers as needed
  • 10% Cleaning Halls, Gyms, and Commons:
    Includes trash removal, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, power scrubbing, burnishing, etc.
  • 20% Summer Cleaning:
    Involves cleaning walls, desks, chairs, tables, electronic equipment, rugs, floor edges, mopping, stripping, sealing, waxing, dusting, vacuuming, rug extracting, power scrubbing, light fixtures, vents, etc.
  • 5% Additional Summer Maintenance:
    Tasks such as painting, changing locker combinations, fixing desks, tables, chairs, doors, shelves, cupboards, etc.
CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Skilled in and knowledgeable about cleaning machines and extractors.
  • Skilled in and knowledgeable about simple mechanical and cleaning equipment, including buffers, carpet cleaners, floor machines, snow blowers, lawnmowers, brooms, field marking equipment, weed eaters, weed cutters, shovels, rakes, and lawn vacuums.
  • Skilled, knowledgeable, and able to operate general machinery.
  • Knowledgeable about working safely with cleaning products.
  • Ability to use various manual cleaning tools.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer, including related job software such as Microsoft Office.

Equipment, Machines, Tools, Electronic Devices, Software:

  • Ability to prepare concise and accurately written documents or reports.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with all levels of management and employees.
  • Ability to work late hours and various shifts as needed.
  • Ability to sit, bend, turn, and maintain other related body postures frequently to perform a majority of the job duties.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk on various surfaces frequently.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to lift or pull up to 50+ pounds.
  • Ability to stoop or crawl.
  • Occasional repetitive motion in performing tasks.
  • The employee may be exposed to infectious diseases carried by students, staff, or the community.

Working Conditions:

  • Noise levels may vary; however, there is no continuous exposure to hazardous noise levels.
  • Proper lifting techniques and caution in handling materials must be used to ensure the safety of the employee.
  • Occasional exposure to heights.
  • Occasional extreme temperatures are encountered in boiler rooms and outdoors.
  • Frequent exposure to dirt, dust, and chemicals.
  • Occasional exposure to bodily fluids.

Supervision of Other Employees:

  • This position is not responsible for the supervision of other District employees.

JOB OUTCOMES:

  • Provides a clean, safe, and comfortable environment to make students and staff proud of their school.
  • Supports students and staff by providing services and facilities that support educational activities and programs.
  • Identifies and reports potential maintenance problems to prevent major repair costs.

  • Secures buildings to prevent vandalism and theft.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prefer persons to have or be willing to obtain:
    Boiler Operator License.

Experience:

  • Not required, but prefer custodial experience or similar background.
