Under immediate supervision and using established procedures and routines, provides cleaning, maintenance, grounds keeping and/or housekeeping service to ensure buildings are cleaned and properly maintained.

12 months – 8 hour shift (requires some Saturdays).

• The following duties are normal for this classification. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
• Cleans restrooms and scours and sanitizes sinks, toilets and drinking fountains.
• Sweeps, mops, power scrubs and waxes floors; vacuums, shampoos carpets, washes windows, sands and refinishes wood floors, washes walls, cleans blinds and blackboards.
• Assembles, moves, dusts and polishes furniture. Sets up and tears down tables and chairs.
• Collects garbage and recyclable materials and places them in appropriate containers.
• Maintains building security. Locks and unlocks doors and windows.
• Assists with fire drills.
• Checks buildings for damage and break-ins.
• Monitors cleaning supply inventories and informs the lead custodian of supply needs.
• Assembles and maintains building equipment.
• Removes snow and ice from building entrances, sidewalks, driveways and play areas.

• Physical involvement: operating, maneuvering and providing simple but continuous adjustment on equipment, machinery and tools such as floor scrubbers, vacuum cleaners, mops, brooms and common hand tools.

• Coordinate eyes, hands, feet and limbs in movements requiring moderate skill, such as assembling.
• Exert moderate but not constant physical effort, typically involving climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling objects and materials of moderate weight (12–20 pounds).
• Recognize and identify similarities or differences among colors, shapes, sounds, odors and textures associated with job-related objects, materials and tasks.
• Complete tasks and meet deadlines despite constant interruptions.
• Compile, assemble, copy, record and/or transcribe data and information according to a prescribed scheme or plan.
• Utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data, such as regulations, blueprints, diagrams, work orders, schedules, material safety data sheets, maintenance and general operating manuals.
• Carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.

• Tasks may risk exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents and toxic/poisonous agents.

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• First aid certification is preferred.
• CPR certification is preferred.
• Prior experience within an educational system or working with children preferred.
• Good organizational and communication skills and the ability to interact with the public.
• Valid Minnesota Driver’s License.
• Must complete the necessary application process and pass a criminal background check and drug screening test.
