Description of the Position: (Purpose of the Position):
- To assist Chinese faculty in the language lab session(s). Occasionally they may be asked to assist Chinese faculty in their research and college-related service.
- Communication (both in English and Chinese; both spoken and written); attention to detail; organization; punctuality; responsibility; confidentiality.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- To work with given faculty members in the Chinese program;
- To prepare for and lead the lab session(s) for students enrolled in first and second year Chinese courses, such as CHINESE 111/112 and CHINESE 231/232;
- To assist faculty members in reviewing lab-related assignments, homework, and quizzes;
- To collaborate with and follow the guidance of the faculty members in preparing course materials and carrying out projects/activities as assigned, including observing regular Chinese language classes;
- To assist faculty members in Chinese program related activities and events;
Qualifications: (Education/Experience/Skills)
Hiring preference will be given to Chinese majors as well as those with native/near native fluency of Mandarin.
- Completion of fourth-year level Chinese courses, such as CHINESE 320, 351 or 360, with a grade of A- or better, or native language proficiency;
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with minimal supervision;
- Strong interpersonal skills and strong Mandarin language skills;
- Punctuality in attending assigned lab session(s), providing complete and timely feedback to students, and arriving on time for meetings;
- Enthusiasm for promoting and teaching Chinese language and culture.
