Summary
The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for counting, pouring, filling and processing roles associated with each prescription. He/she will also be responsible for many of the day-to-day operations of the pharmacy and professionally interacting with patients and other Health System Staff. He/she will perform these duties in accordance with the standards, laws, regulations and policies of the profession, applicable regulating bodies, and the Health System.

Professional Service- Professionally greet and engage patients and customers as they enter the pharmacy or on the telephone
- Properly respond to or triage questions from patients, customers, coworkers or other Health System staff, whether via phone or face-to-face
- Properly maintain patient profiles including, but not limited to, demographic information (name, birth date, phone number, allergies, address, gender), medical disease history, medication history (including over-the-counter medications if possible), insurance information, easy-open cap authorization
- Supports policies and procedures of the Health System
- Assists in job development, cross-training and training for new employees and students
- Participates in staff meetings; attends and participates in other meetings as necessary
- Maintains professional competence through participation in continuing education programs. Maintains and supports involvement and contact with professional peer organizations
- Accurately input prescription information for transmission to insurance companies, thereby decreasing risk of audit; understand proper DAW use and documentation
- Resolving rejected claims by speaking with pharmacist, coworkers, providers or third-party insurance companies to help best serve our patients
- Accurately count, measure or mix prescription medications as allowable by pharmacist
- Accurately present final preparation of prescription medication in appropriate container, applying proper labeling (including auxiliary labels) and maintaining pharmaceutical elegance
- Communicate medication profiles (including medication summaries for tax purposes) verbally or on paper to requesting individual as allowable by privacy laws and comfort level of technician
- Access the Minnesota Prescription Monitoring Program with suspected drug abuse/diversion behaviors (i.e. patient using multiple providers, early refills, using cash instead of insurance) and alert pharmacist if these behaviors or suspected/confirmed abuse is occurring
- Use his or her pharmaceutical knowledge to help pharmacist ensure patient is receiving a safe, effective and affordable medication
- Accurately respond to or triage questions from providers
- Accurately obtain and document refill authorizations from providers as allowable
- Complete CE requirements as required by the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy
- Accurately receive, unpack, and check merchandise to ensure it is received properly and in acceptable condition
- Separate and place invoices in proper location
- Label pharmaceuticals appropriately and place in proper location of the pharmacy
- Update electronic pharmacy inventory as necessary
- Develop knowledge of inventory control to best manage our patient’s needs and the financial goals of First Light Health System
- Gain understanding of 340B billing and importance of proper documentation
- Assist pharmacist with monthly C-II inventory
- Manage shelves to ensure expired medications are removed and designated to be sent to appropriate company for return/credit
- Help maintain overall neatness of entire pharmacy to help create a professional workplace environment
- Maintain neat working environment to help ensure accurate filling of prescriptions
- Help ensure areas visible to patient are dusted regularly and floors are kept clean and free of garbage
- Ensure bottle bays are dusted and are presented in a clean, organized fashion
