This position will serve as the Safety Officer for the MVH-Preston to implement, promote, coordinate, monitor, and evaluate safety and health programs. The role is part‑time and primarily day shift, with a schedule that includes at least 40 hours per two‑week pay period.
Minimum Qualifications- At least two years of experience in Environmental Health and Safety, demonstrating experience in at least two of the following:
- Maintaining and auditing safety programs
- Analyzing workers’ compensation data and/or identifying ways to mitigate risk
- Developing and/or promoting health and wellness programs
- Ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations
- Knowledge of occupational health, safety and environmental health regulations (OSHA, Minnesota OSHA, EPA, MPCA, NFPA, etc.)
- Analysis and critical thinking skills sufficient to analyze information, develop and implement strategies to improve safety and health for employees, residents, and customers
- Communication skills sufficient to write and present safety‑related investigations and progress reports
- Ability to implement and present training to individuals and groups on safety and health issues
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Risk Management/Control, Occupational Safety, Safety Management/Science, Safety Engineering, or a closely related field may substitute for one year of experience. An associate’s degree may substitute for six months of experience.
- Three or more years in Environmental Health and Safety field as described above
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
- Knowledge of CMS, federal Veterans Administration or MN Department of Health regulations for healthcare settings
- Experience working in a healthcare or long‑term care facility
- Experience conducting inspections, determining compliance, and enforcing adherence to OSHA laws and regulations
- Knowledge of security camera systems operation
- Knowledge of emergency preparedness and management
- Successful completion of a Minnesota Department of Human Services background check (if conducted)
- Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening (or chest x‑ray) required before employment
- Employment reference checks will be conducted on finalists
