Summary
The Patient Financial Representative supports management in the billing and collection of account receivable for self-pay accounts.
Department: Business Office
Reports To: Revenue Cycle Manager
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Reviews all self-pay bills for accuracy, verifies insurance coverage as necessary and completes billing process to Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial Insurance and/or patients. Corrects and moves accounts to appropriate biller.
- Works with patients on billing and payment questions.
- Verifies and sends out patient estimates in a timely manner.
- Changes insurance plans to allow statement accuracy.
- Maintains files on all account activity, works on accounts to assure timely filing and payment.
- Understands the revenue cycle and the importance of evaluating all appropriate financial resources for the patients.
- Works closely with the outsourced billing department, collection vendor, and MN Revenue Recapture to ensure patient accounts are accurate.
- Supports the policies and procedures of the organization and the standards of the Joint Commission as required for full accreditation.
3 to 5 years in an office clerical setting, which 1 year should be in a hospital or clinic business office setting.
Language SkillsAbility to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical SkillsAccounting and ability to add and subtract two‑digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Computer SkillsKnowledge of Microsoft Office products, Epic, and the ability and willingness to learn new software products, as needed.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
