Position SummaryWe are currently hiring for part-time (0.4 FTE) Ophthalmic Assistants at our Glencoe location. This will be two days (Wednesdays and Thursdays). The Ophthalmic Assistant is responsible for diagnostic testing and work‑up as delegated by the physician to allow for proper professional diagnosis of the patient's conditions. Our practice offers advancement opportunities and on‑the‑job training and we promote and encourage growth. Team members can work to advance from COA to COT and COMT and will be supported on this journey.
Starting pay is $24.00–$28.00/hour.
- Perform and document subjective and objective ophthalmic testing efficiently to provide basic information necessary for ophthalmic examinations. This includes but is not limited to history, visual acuities, lensometry (manual and auto), refractometry, keratometry (manual and automated), visual fields, tonometry, assisting with office procedures, and performing contact lens I&R’s.
- Educate patients regarding diagnostic testing and their clinic visit.
- Open and close exam rooms, ensure all equipment is clean and ready for the doctor, and stock all necessary supplies.
- Inform patients of the purpose of all tests performed and how they will be affected during the tests.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Optometry or ophthalmology experience preferred (retina experience a plus but not required).
- JCAHPO certification preferred.
- Contact lens experience preferred.
- COA, COT or COMT preferred but not required.
